John Brent Musgrave

UFOlogy has been around for the better part of 80 years.

There are a lot of implications for that type of longevity, and part of that long history is that the members who pioneered the field are sadly lost to the ravages of time. One such pioneer was John Brent Musgrave, born on August 21, 1941 and left us on August 11, 2015, hailing from Oliver, British Columbia, Canada.

John wore many hats in his 73 years: husband,  historian, academic, a multi-talented teacher, consultant and writer. But to many of us at UFO*BC John will be remembered as a pioneer in the field of studying UFOs, and as an incredible UFO researcher.

John’s widow, Consuela, contacted UFO*BC after John’s passing and asked if we were interested in taking possession of his extensive research collection. Of course it was an opportunity we could not pass up, so Dave and Martin went to Oliver, BC to collect the veritable treasure trove of UFO files John had personally researched or collected over the years.

Thanks to Dave for his diligent efforts to digitize them and ensure that they are maintained for posterity. Once complete, the Musgrave Files (as they are now called) will be made available on our site for all to enjoy.

Although I never did have the pleasure of meeting John firsthand, I find that many UFO researchers are kindred spirits. We are all in a similar struggle to ensure the integrity of our field remains as pure and pristine as possible. It is therefore with heavy heart that we must say goodbye to John, and know that he is with so many of us who have passed on before. He will however live on in the meticulous record keeping of his research files.

John’s family said a very touching note, that when remembering John, please give that time to celebrate your own family and friends.
