August 1966, time approx. 7:30 pm.
Still daylight outside. Clear sky, no aircraft.
Bowen Island, BC.
I saw a bright object, which I thought was the
planet Jupiter. As I started to get the object in
sight with my telescope it started moving SW, and
losing altitude. I swung the telescope around and
caught the object for less than 3 seconds. It
appeared to be egg-shaped with a fin of some kind
near the back.
The telescope eyepiece was not properly adjusted
therefore blurring the object. The speed was under
300 mph. The object was glowing an orange colour.
Total sighting was about 10 minutes. I watched the
object until it went out of sight, still
travelling SW. I am uncertain of the altitude of
the object.
