Ermis Cecconi of Powell River, B.C. watched
an object from his living room window for
about 5 minutes last December 31st (1967)
about 7 p.m. “I noticed a light approaching
over the water,” said Mr. Cecconi. “I
thought at first it was an airplane, but it
got bigger and bigger and it got closer and
I could see that it wasn't a plane,” he
said. Binoculars enabled him to observe the
scene more clearly. “There seemed to be a
chain of smaller lights around the main body
which was pulsating as it hung motionless
between Westview and Harwood.” The object
seemed to be as large as an airplane and was
about a mile and a half over the water,
about a mile high. He watched the phenomenon
for about 5 minutes when it suddenly “seemed
to throw down gobs of light, which
disappeared as they hit the water.” It shot
off then at great speed as it rapidly
disappeared.
Mr. Cecconi said the outer
perimeter of lights of the UFO seemed to be
revolving as he watched it through
binoculars. Although the lights were clearly
visible, it seemed as if the object was one
complete entity, with a solid structure
between the outer lights and the main light.
Cecconi said it seemed to him the object was
under “some kind of intelligent control” and
dismissed the suggestion that he saw either
weather balloons or flares. “It was moving
too fast,” he said.
