Oliver Resident Sights Strange 'Celestial Body' Monday Evening

Oliver, BC - July 7, 1965

Oliver Chronicle Vol. 29, No. 47. July 8, 1965

An Oliver resident reports sighting a strange "zig-zagging celestial object" in the sky Monday evening.

Similar reports originated from viewers in San Diego, U.S.A., Chile, Argentina and the Antarctic.

Mrs. Perry Sallows said the object zig-zagged from west to east, first appearing bright red and later changing to the appearance of an "awfully bright star". "Sometimes," she reports, "it appeared quite dull, then bright . . . turning in circles and traveling in different directions."

She first sighted the object about 10:30, and said it took about twenty minutes to traverse the sky.
