I read in my bulletin that you would like to have more on the “Beep”; From the Northern Sentinal (Local paper of Kitimat, B.C. Canada).

MYSTERIOUS BEEP SOUND CAUSES PUZZLE. 19th April 1967

A mysterious beeping sound which has been heard nightly since last Saturday in various parts of Nechako neighborhood (forest) has local R.C.M.P. baffled.

The intermittent beep-beep at intervals of about one second was first reported to the police by a citizen Saturday night. Police investigation failed to uncover the source which seemed to be moving as the investigators got close.

Guesses have ranged from a bird, to an electronic device to something from outer since. Cpl. M.J. Van De Kinder said he was among those who attempted to identify the sound last night about 11 pm. Today he admitted he was as puzzled as anyone else and said police had no equipment which might help solve the mystery.

He said a number of citizens were also out last night listening to the sound, apparently heard in the evening and at night. Among the areas where the sound has been detected are around the high school, around Nalabila Esso Station, and near Oersted street.

They forget to say that it was also coming from the fairly dense forest at the backs of these places, and when I went to investigate with my daughter and son-in-law, it seemed to be coming from ABOVE the tree tops and from no place that one could pin-point, it sounded to me like the beep of the radio time signal, and I got the eerie feeling that it made me think of a homing signal, which feeling was very strong------------. And my hearing and other faculties are very good for my age.

I phoned the police and told them to take a compass into the forest, and to note whether it ran wild with its needle. Next night he told the T.V. that a lady had phoned in to tell him to use a compass, but DIDN'T TELL HIM WHY (I did).

The next night my grandson took our police-trained German Shepherd to the area. Now this dog is not easily scared, but he gazed into the dark forest and gently backed away, looking pleadingly at my grandson as though to say, “please, please take me away”, so my grandson decided not to order him into the forests, as this is a valuable dog.

Now during all this beeping, that went on for a week or more, the following happened:

19th of April: My friend and her husband, who lived (they have since moved to Smithers) about a 10 minutes walk from me, with a very good view looking over Kitimat Bay, also Alcan Steel works. My friend and her husband phoned me to tell me to go out and look in the sky towards, and over Alcan, which I did, and there was hovering something that struck us as being too large for a star, and it was flashing blue, red, green, white lights. My friend was much shaken, and ran out of the house and stopped a lady, asking her “do you see what I see?” The lady gazed stupefied for a moment, then described what she was looking at, and nervously said “I was just going to my mother’s to borrow her sewing machine, but I think I had better go home”. And with that she hurried back the way she had come. In addition, the lady said she had “never seen anything like that before”.

20th of April: I stood watch that night for one hour or more, and saw STARS??, of which 2 went North, one chasing the other, then another which went East, another went South-West, and another went North-West. Then the Electric power failed for approx one hour (we are fed from Alcan) and the telephone company, using their own generator, put a call through for me to my friend, and she was seeing these things too. I called my Son-in-law out when he arrived home, and he tried to tell me they were satellites?????? Mr and Mrs Dye, who live opposite us, vouched no opinion, but appeared to be somewhat mystified, and interested, and we watched for quite a while.

21st of April: My friend and I kept watch every night and on this date we saw more, we lost count, but it was a splendid aerial ballet, and OH I forgot to tell you that the fire siren started to blare for no reason that we could find out, and also the fire box at the hospital started a small fire, and NOBODY COULD, OR WOULD EXPLAIN.
