Dear
sir:
Thank you very much for letter (27 Dec. '67)
and enclosed forms. As I do not know now and
never will know what the moving lighted
object was, I may be better off to forget
about it.
I
do not remember the exact date, about the
first of Oct. '67 at 11 p.m. I was as always
at this time of night outside in our back
garden with my dog. The sky was partly
cloudy, of the low type - looked like
stratocumulus, some stars visible. No moon,
and according to the calendar it was new
moon. No wind and I do not remember the
exact temperature, maybe 45 degrees above.
We had rain the previous days and the
weather started to clear that night. I was
looking north and at about 40 degrees
elevation a light appeared, shaped like two
soup dishes put together face to face, then
it moved in a wobbly way up about 45 to 50
degrees and at the same time to NW, then
back again to its original position. Then it
took off at lightning speed and disappeared
in a NW direction. It took no more than 2 to
3 minutes at the most from the time I first
noticed it to its disappearance. I enjoyed
the unexpected pretty light and did not ask
myself at this moment what it could be. Only
minutes afterwards as I stood there
wondering over its origin, I became somewhat
annoyed at the possible answer: a U.F.O? No,
not for me, they don't exist. See, I am not
a religious person, no fanatic of any kind,
I always like to see things as they really
are. It was about 5-7 miles away and size at
arm's length about 28". There was no sound,
no clear-cut outlines as it was behind a
very thin white cloud, no single bright
light, an oval-shaped light about 28". The
mountain outlines were below it. There is no
airforce or airport or weather station north
of Chilliwack.
I
was there in the garden by myself, as
always, and did not know what to say to my
husband when I returned into the house and
looked as if I had seen a ghost. When I did
tell him about it, he halfway serious and
halfway kidding said, maybe it was a flying
saucer. We never talked about it since,
thank God.
I
am interested in books on astronomy and
enjoy finding different constellations and
am able to tell the time by the position of
the stars. Would have liked to continue at
the local flying club to get my private
pilot’s licence but money-wise we just can
not afford it. I had only grade XI education
in my native Vienna, Austria and spent two
years on a "kinotheodolite" on the Baltic
Sea in Germany during the last war, which
also included the developing of yards and
yards of 35mm film. Did the same work then
in Canada 1951 for the Dept of Nat. Defence
in Ottawa (microfilming) (16mm and 35mm).
Later on I learned photographic plate-making
and offset-printing in Calgary Alta. Had my
own portrait studio from '62-'64 and worked
since '64 as matron for the R.C.M. Police.
Please
do not mention this strange lighted object I
have seen, in connection with my name. Many
people here do not wish to admit that there
might be something more than fiction to
unknown flying objects. Maybe I am a 'sissy'
myself and hate to accept new facts. I shall
fill in the application blank for membership
in the near future.
Yours truly
Elizabeth Keller
P.S. a "kino-theodolite" is (or was) used by
the Luftwaffe's training and research
stations on the Baltic Sea coast, 35mm
exposure had 360 degrees marked on it plus
the angle of elevation (on one theodolite)
and the angle from right to left (right
ascension) on the other theodolite, of the
aircraft or other to be tested.
This
is also just between you and me, please!
