Kamloops, B.C. (CP) Three
young boys here have the laugh on RCAF
officials who said “glowing objects” over
the city last week were “atmospheric
phenomenon”. The boys admitted Thursday the
objects were home-made variations of
lighter-than-air balloons. Hundreds saw the
objects. They were described as being 1,000
feet up, like balls of fire blinking on and
off. The boys covered light, wooden
cone-shaped frames with tissue paper, then
attached a gasoline-soaked blob of cotton at
the base. The hot air expanded when the gas
burned, the cones rose, and people were
mystified.
“We didn’t pick anything up
on radar,” said the air force.
