‘Thunderstruck’ by UFO

Saltair, BC - April 18, 1966

SALTAIR – Two scared young girls ran to their Saltair home Monday night shouting they had seen a strange flying object.

Mona, 12, and Diane, 11, are the daughters of Mr. and Mrs. G. M. Smith, Saltair.

They had been out to the mailbox about 8:30.

When they ran into the house, Mr. Smith went out to see what they were fussing about. He is a logging truck driver at Copper Canyon, Chemainus, and was not available this morning for comment.

Mrs. Smith said today: “He was sort of thunderstruck and said he wouldn’t have believed the girls if he hadn’t seen the thing for himself.”

Mrs. Smith said her husband described the object as capable of changing color, from blue to red, and flying at high speeds and stopping rapidly.

It was flying overland between Saltair and Ladysmith.

Mrs. Smith reported to Ladysmith RCMP.
