Victoria artist and art critic Mrs. Ina Uhthoff of
Esquimalt remained adamant Monday that the lights
she saw in the sky Friday night were not Venus.
Meanwhile another object was
reported which had been sighted at 7:20 p.m.
Sunday.
Both the Dominion Astrophysical
Observatory and RCAF observer at Comox said
Monday that the mysterious cluster of lights was
not an unidentified flying object, but the
planet Venus.
“I KNOW VENUS”
“I know old Venus,” Mrs. Uhthoff
said, “the light shines right in my front
porch.”
“This is the story that is
dished out every time by the air force, when
they can’t explain anything.”
“Venus is a staid old lady that
appears each night at sunset.”
I would not mistake a bejewelled
thing for old Venus.”
SPOTTER VISIT
She added that an air force
spotter had spent the morning talking to her,
and had left her a questionnaire.
“They wouldn’t have taken that
much time and trouble if they really believed I
had just seen Venus.”
She said she would be prepared
to accept a theory of a reflection due to
atmospheric conditions.
“The atmosphere was thick on
Friday, and under certain atmospheric conditions
I’ve “seen” ships sailing upside down in the
straits in the summer.
“But that was most certainly not
Venus.”
