Meteor or Plane?

The Lacombe Globe

A meteorite seen in parts of western Canada from Regina to Vancouver confused at least two residents in this locality Monday night.

Lacombe police received an emergency phone call about 11:00 p.m. Monday from a motorist travelling from Stettler to Lacombe who reported "a plane crash eight miles east of town."

No sooner was this call checked out and proved false than another phone call arrived from a farmer west of Lacombe (Jackfish) Lake, who was convinced an airplane on fire had crashed to the ground near his place.

In each case, the description of "yellow and blue flashing lights" was similar. Against the dark sky, pieces of what was apparently the meteor broke away and resembled a stricken aircraft.
