HELENA, Mont. (AP) - The sheriff’s office said Thursday
it is investigating marks left on the ground by an unidentified flying object.
Reporters and sheriffs deputies investigated the area east of Helena where the
object was sighted Wednesday night - along the shoreline of Canyon Ferry Lake
on the Missouri River.
They found four holes about 13 feet apart, six to eight inches deep and eight
to 10 inches across.
The holes smelled of diesel fuel, according to one reporter. A circular spot
was seared into the top of underbrush.
In Washington, however, U.S. Air Force said it investigated more than 8,000
reported unidentified flying objects in 16 years “and has yet to discover any
evidence that they represent a threat” to U.S. security.
