SAW A METEORITE

Residents at Canford Aroused by Brilliant Spectacle

Merritt - What is believed to have been a meteorite fell in the mountains near Canford on Thursday night, Dec. 4, illuminating the heavens brilliantly and striking the earth with such force that the impact was heard for miles. Those who witnessed the phenomenon declare it to have been a marvelously beautiful spectacle and one to be remembered as long as they live. The exact spot in the mountains where the heavenly visitor fell has not been found, but the noise made by its impact with the earth resembled a very heavy explosion of gunpowder, and shook the entire country in the vicinity of Canford.

The meteorite passed over the home of Mr. and Mrs. H. B. Charles, and the illumination was so bright for a few seconds that they could not realize what had happened. Other families residing in the same vicinity, and also people who were travelling on the highway at the time, witnessed the spectacle. As soon as weather conditions permit, an effort will be made to locate the spot where this meteorite fell.
